Born out of conversations with students, employers, educators and other organisations who work to help young people navigate the world of architectural education and professional progression, this new – and free – drawing course is designed to supplement traditional architectural learning, build design confidence, develop critical technical design and shape visual communication skills.
The first course of the Drawing School is ‘The Plan’. This 1- week programme for undergraduate architecture students will be taking place at our Hoxton studio this July.
The course focuses around drawing the plan of a single dwelling entirely by hand. Participants will work through brief, concept and spatial development and will collaboratively imagine homes that positively impact the lived experience of their inhabitants.
Key aspects of the course:
• Hand drawing!
• A deep dive into the history and evolution of residential floorplan typologies
• Key building regulations that inform housing design
• Workshops, talks, group work and direct learning from Architects in the studio
• Articulating, communicating and presenting design thinking
Applications are now open to Architecture Undergraduates who have finished 1st and/or 2nd year of study and who live in Hackney, Islington or Tower Hamlets.
The course will run from Monday 21st – Friday 25th July and applications close Monday 30th June at 6pm.
