Last week, we opened our doors to nine Postgraduate students for the second instalment of The Drawing School.
Over the course of the week, students worked entirely by hand on the design of a single dwelling, supported by individual and group tutorials from architects in the studio.
The course combined a structured series of seminars and workshops, including a guided tour of a local neighbourhood with buildings spanning from the 1800’s through to the 1960’s, a study of different dwelling typologies, architectural drawings and insight into building regulations.
Each student selected a household and a ‘building situation’ at the beginning of the week, tasking them with designing different dwelling sizes across a wide range of contemporary building typologies including towers, mansion blocks, gallery access apartments.
The week concluded with Friday’s presentations, where students presented inventive designs that also responded to the lived experience of the residents, showing how people would use, inhabit and feel at home in the spaces they created.
Thank you to all who participated!
